Regular readers will know we usually keep to Valencia city and the towns around it, but for anyone who wants the small-town pace of life, walkable streets, a proper old town, mountains and sea both nearby without sacrificing culture, good food or an international community, Dénia does it as well as anywhere on this coast.

Four floors up right opposite the Plaza de la Constitución, this penthouse gives the feeling of a villa in the hills while the Old Town tapas bars are a two-minute stroll away. Mountain on one side, the
