The Valencia Property Substack Page

Regular readers of this blog will know that this isn't the only place that we write about property in Valencia, in fact we do more than write as you'll know, there's the Valencia Property podcast too, there are videos on the Valencia Property YouTube channel and we get quoted regularly in the international press, on TV and radio about issues to do with the Spanish and Valencian property market. However, in the last few weeks we have been making navigating around our various websites easier so you are kept up to date with the latest news and information about moving to and living in Valencia. You may have noticed changes in the Menu bars on here, on the main Valencia Property homepage and on the substack so they all refer back to each other.

Today therefore we are going do a couple of things. One, look at how our substack differs from the main blog as it is a lot less seen than this blog. We are going to take a look at some of our recent posts there. This will give you a little bit of a taste and a nice link or two to investigate. You should go over there and subscribe if you want something a bit less propety focussed but still with Valencia Property in the background. Because of course we still talk about property and life in Valencia on substack but it's a bit more sweary and slightly more resentful of some of the a**holes who are making people's lives a misery around the World. There are a mixture of posts about property, social media, issues affecting Spain and of course life, the universe and everything where we arrive at the inevitable answer 42. And two, some news from Valencia. What's happening here and it's good stuff.

Firstly, the Valencia Property substack homepage can be found at the link or by clicking on the image above.

Our latest post was all about that lovely man Mark Zuckerburg and Facebook's latest brain fart. Over the years we have built up quite a decent following on Facebook. People choosing to follow us there so they could "theoretically" see our stuff. But also over the years Facebook has made it less and less visible to those people who liked looking at properties in Valencia. They'd prefer to put a mixture of ragebait and ads in front of you because this keeps you on the platform so you can see more ads. We looked into this and their latest wheeze, Meta One, in the last post. Long story short, we had to think of something to try and get around the limitations being put on page owners so as you will see here we also posted last week about the Valencia Property Hub Page.

Prior to this we had been writing about the increasingly rapid collapse of social media on substack. The increasing need to "pay to play", how that affects everything you read and how it destroyed the main platforms in terms of interest.

But we don't only write about social media of course. Nope, we write about aspects of life in Valencia and Spain and a load of other stuff too. We write about the background to what we do including this post about how to write a property description.

As we said on this post "We put a lot of work into the descriptions at times, sometimes we take up to twenty minutes ;-), and once the house is sold, we take it off the site. It is then that we realise that the pure artistry of the description, the random cultural references, the jokes about Trump, Brexit, Religion and more will be lost forever. The internet can be an ephemeral thing at times. We don’t want to lose everything in future so the idea was to present to you a collection of what we do every now and again and you can luxuriate in the adolescent and more mature humour, the heavy sarcasm, the cultural appropriation and a whole lot more."

You need to click through to the article to get more of an idea about how we organise the descriptions. Learn about hooks, winks and basics and how they come together into a semi-coherent whole.

More Property Stuff

We write about being estate agents and why we are not the right target when people blame estate agents for high house prices. We write from a personal point of view about why the townhouse enigma exists and about buying and converting an Italian Restuarant into our office though that is mostly a video.

Life and Other Stuff

We even talk about the world and its existential crises through articles like Life's Hard and Then You Die and encourage people to spend more time of their four score years and ten on this little blue planet enjoying life in Valencia. We talk about work and when is it too late to start a new project and we also take a swing at things we don't like seeing creeping into Spanish life such as tipping as a matter of course rather than as a choice depending on the service you have received.

We tell you about some very Valencian things and even look back on the World Cup when Spain went wild. We talk about why Spanish holidays are great and a whole lot more.

As you can see the substack page is a little bit more eclectic than here but it maintains the attitude, the humour and the information that brings you back here again and again. You should subscribe. It's free and always be. Just head on over and sign up. We generally publish there on Wednesdays so you'll get two Valencia Property hits per week, one here on Sunday/Monday and the other over there without forgetting the monthly podcast and irregular videos.

And if you think it's time to get yourself over here and join us then make sure to fill in the form below and start your journey.

News From Valencia

If anyone has been in Valencia and trying to get to the airport in the last three years you will know that the access roads have been an absolute nightmare as the access is "improved". The work is still ongoing but now the everlasting work is going to the airport itself. It seems that there are fixed plans in place to upgrade the airport and it involves 27 months of "even more improvements" meaning the airport itself will be closed from 10pm to 6am, no early morning or night-time arrivals which is great for residents of Manises but not so much for Michael O'Leary or passengers on any delayed plane supposedly arriving at 9pm as they will be diverted to Alicante or Castellón.

The New Sorrolla Museum

An older story as this was announced back in January but I missed it (and you always have to take announcements with a pinch of salt in Valencia). However, finally it has been confirmed that the New Sorrolla Museum is close. Generally considered to be Valencia's greatest artist, Joaquin Sorrolla "the Painter of Light" is going to finally have his own museum with over 200 pieces on display in his home city of Valencia and right slap bang in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The new Sorrolla Museum will be housed in the fantastic "Palacio de Comunicaciones", or as we know it in Valencia, the main post office (Even though it no longer is).

Equally for those of you not traumatised by Fallas, (ie not Morrissey), and those of you not here in March each year, the new museum will have a multisensory Fallas exhibition so that people can experience the looks, sounds and possibly even the smells of Fallas.

The new museum is expected to open by the end of January 2027 but a fixed opening date is still not certain as the works are still ongoing to remodel the Palacio de Comunicaciones.

Lim Go Home is 42% Complete

Peter Lim is the absentee owner of Valencia football club and he has finally taken the hint from thousands of Valencia supporters every week and started to sell up. This week he sold 42% of the club to Pitchwise Holdings, an American investment fund. It hasn't been revealed how much Pitchwise has paid for the 42% but apparently it values the club at 1,250 million Euros (hahahahaha! Valencia have the second biggest debt in European football behind Man United) which would mean a significant profit for Lim on his original 92 million Euro purchase. In 12 years Lim has successfully managed to asset strip Valencia of its best players and a place at Europe's top table and now he gets a succulent profit so I'm sure the fan base will think it's all been worthwhile. Except he still holds a majority shareholding so maybe not. Anyway, apparently Valencia will have 100 million available immediately for reinforcements in January for their relegation fight. The new stadium for which completion is due next year will look really nice in the second division if that money isn't used well.
