If you are not a great lover of our political posts then look away now (I'm looking at you Mr Furgason*) However, if you like a bit of extremely thinly-veiled sarcasm then read on. Today I just want to do a short post of appreciation for the great leader of the Good Ol' US of A Donald J. Trump. Yes Donnie, I'm talking to you today. And no, this isn't going to be about your sexual predelictions, your ongoing attempt to destroy the American political system, your inability to form a coherent sentence (The only thing you weave is your remaining few locks into the wig) or even about my favourite nickname for you the Orange Sh*tgibbon.Surprisingly this is simply a post thanking you Donald for helping us towards yet another record year. Yes Donnie, we are thanking you.
Now I know Donnie that you and your mate, that weirdo Vance, are always complaining that nobody ever says thank you so I thought it was time to give our thanks to you as Jeffrey's best buddy for encouraging so many Americans to get passports and leave the country. Thanks a million Donald! In fact you have been doing such a good job that we have now reached the same number of American clients this year as we did in the whole of 2024 (And that was a record year for our American clients when they saw you were coming back!) Despite you devaluing the dollar, see below, by almost 13% in just six months (I'm sure there's a plan in the background right Donnie!) they continue to contact us and ask for help in finding and funding their refuge from you in Valencia and Spain.
Of course we are happy to oblige and as mentioned we are so, so happy to thank you for sending them our way.
Client Meetings
In client meeting after client meeting with our American cousins we get told a version of the same thing
- I don't feel safe
- I'm worried for my family
- I don't want my kids living in that situation
- As a member/supporter of LGBTQ+ I feel in danger
- As a Latino I wanted to come to a safer country for me and my family where they speak my languages
- I hate that f*cking creep
- I don't recognise my country any more
You get the idea. And of course we are able to reassure them that what they want to see in America they will find here;
- A progressive country in most part
- A place where family, friends and community are important
- A place on the up rather than descending into uncertainty and let's say it clearly, Fascism.
- A place where the cost of living is considerably cheaper.
Let's look at a few things about the cost of living for example. The Bottom line is that Spain is consistently 25-40% cheaper than the USA across most categories, with housing being particularly affordable despite the recent rises. This is because those rises have been everywhere in the World since Covid obviously. The exact savings depend on your location and lifestyle, but most Americans can expect to significantly reduce their living expenses while maintaining or improving their quality of life. And if you are coming from the main hubs of the USA, the more expensive big cities, then you can expect to massively reduce your costs, well over the 40% mark, initially, day to day and year on year.
Let's look at safety too. Spain is consistenly ranked as one of the safest places on the planet to live in terms of personal safety, risks of natural disasters and also for anyone who may be considered "an enemy of the State" in certain other countries. Driving cross country on Saturday, my son saw someone carrying a gun and was shocked as it was the first time he had ever seen one (Apart from holstered pistols carried by the police)*. He's 20.

On the up? Spain's economy is the fastest growing in Europe and within all of the advanced economies of the World and why is it growing? Immigration. We need more workers in Spain and those coming in are working, doing jobs that are required, from fruit picking to university lecturers and everything in between. Many of them are working here because of you Donald! Thanks. And mostly, they are welcomed with open arms apart from a few Vox supporting Neanderthals.
Once more we cannot thank you enough Donnie for making the USA a bit of a hellscape currently for anyone with a conscience and the ability to get out. ICE = Gestapo, the Big Beautiful Bill = Tax Cuts for Billionaires, health cuts for the rest and a massively burgeoning national debt. (And an amazing thing that I found out a couple of days ago if anyone is mad enough to want to visit the USA or even worse, has to go there for work reasons, and they are not from one of the 42 visa waiver countries, then there is a new "Visa Integrity Fee" of $250 buried in the Big Beautiful Bill) So my family would have to pay $1250 just to be admitted to the country* when I would be carted off to Alligator Alcatraz, your new Concentration Camp, as soon as immigration took one look at my phone and saw the cartoon illustrating this article.
*(As we live in Spain but are UK passport holders we would have to prove permanent right to live in the UK which as residents of Spain we couldn't. At least that's how I read it at the moment)
So once more thank you Sr Trump for saving me not only the plane fare to get to the States, and thus even more emissions causing global warming from the plane, but also all of the money I would be paying over there for my visit, the restaurants, the tourist trips/traps, maybe some car hire, the hotels, and potentially also trying out things that you like doing... for example... (...checks notes...) defrauding New York City, increasing the country's GDP and the personal wealth of numerous lawyers by being implicated and indicted in defamation cases, setting up and profitting from fake charities, insider trading, appearing as an extra in an awful film and still being the worst thing in it. I could go on but I come not to bury you Don, I come to thank you.
Thank you so much for everything. I know you are doing your best to increase our bottom line in Spain in GDP terms and to make sure we at Valencia Property can't ever even think of getting bored by supplying us with a conveyor belt of wonderful and interesting people contacting and visiting us. Our American clients are lovely as are most of the people in the States, just not the MAGA lot (And it seems now you have even p*ssed them off). Our American clients and new friends love their new life here in Valencia and Spain. Most only ask themselves one question, why on Earth they took so long to leave? Well, Donnie, it was you that gave them the push and for that we here in Valencia will be eternally grateful. You won't ever have to ask me "Have you even once said thank you", unlike that Zelensky guy. A million thanks Donald, we couldn't have done this without you. You are our hero. You deserve everything that is coming to you.

News From Valencia
Anyway, onto news from Valencia. The redevelopment of the old Formula One track area has now been semi-confirmed with a total of 3204 new apartments spread over some rather huge skyscrapers and a large park of some 16 hectares. It now goes into the planning stage with the hope of getting things started in 20 months time! So give it four years before keys I'd say. Almost 20% of the homes will be VPO (subsidised housing) and a smaller number set aside for people over 65 or under 35, so called "dotacional".
It's a start but as pointed out in Valencia Plaza this week after a talk by the head of one of housing departments at a local university, there are just 95 new build apartments available for sale in Valencia currently. That's for a city of almost 1 million people remember!

Last week we sold a property, that's what we do of course. However, this property never came onto the market, you didn't get to see it. But, we have photos and we listed it but not publicly. The owner said it wasn't to go onto the site until September because they didn't want to have to deal with visits this month because of holidays. We sent our hidden listing to someone we knew would be interested having missed out on a property recently and with us knowing exactly what they wanted and they immediately made an offer that was accepted by the owner without a visit.

Stepping Stones Rental of the Week
