Marques De Campo, Denia's main retail street - perfect for shopping, or watching the world go by
Whilst being a small and traditional town centre rather than a typical city high street, Denia has much to offer its shoppers, whether visiting or resident.
The main thoroughfare of Marques De Campo connects the heart of the town with the blue-flag beaches adjacent to the marina, and is a beautiful tree-lined avenue filled with shops and businesses. Most of this avenue is pedestrianised at main shopping times (though the side streets crossing it are not, so take care!), and there are many cafes and ice cream shops where you can enjoy a break from shopping whenever you want to sit and watch the world go by, under the shady plane trees.

At the top of the road – furthest from the coast – is the bougainvillea-lined Glorieta, a beautiful square with a central fountain. This is definitely one of the prettiest, but certainly not the cheapest, place to stop for refreshments on your Denia shopping trip.
As well as the usual banks and phone shops you will find a good range of fashion outlets along this street, from local independent boutiques to international brands like Desigual. There are also several shoe shops catering to a range of tastes and budgets. Some excellent jewellers, sportswear shops, and homewares outlets mean there’s something to suit every shopper. If a store looks open but the doors are closed, don’t feel unwelcome – they’re just preserving the air-conditioned interior, and waiting for you to step inside and browse in comfort.

Fashion-wise, there are good value choices for all ages to be found in Denia, as well as high-end designer labels if that is your style.
If it isn't and you prefer bargain-hunting, then far cheaper clothes can be found in the Torrecremada market on Mondays and Fridays – always great for a rummage, and unearthing the occasional treasure, amongst a colourful range of trash. Otherwise hit the high street in January or June to take advantage of the annual sales (“rebajas”), when generous discounts can combine on even the most luxurious brands.
Heading off the main drag will take you into side streets with smaller independent shops, many of which have been family businesses for decades. It can feel like stepping back in time, even in the newer town areas of Denia, simply because of the range and diversity of shops you’ll discover.
From cycling shops to haberdashers, exquisite baby christening gown creators to decidedly adult shops, specialist repairs to musical instruments, there is probably a tiny retail outlet somewhere in Denia which has exactly what you need. You will likely be served by an old lady behind a traditional shop counter, who probably reckons the change in pesetas, at least in her head. And it’s a world away from the kind of cookie-cutter generic high streets you find in so many cities around the world.
Denia also boasts a number of bookshops and stationers, including Publics, right next to the bus station – where you can order supplies for all local schools, as well as buying books and periodicals in many languages. And of course there are plenty of food shops, from large supermarket branches such as Mercadona and Consum, to little corner shops with fresh produce, to specialist bodegas or health food outlets.
Being a manageable sized small town, you can easily find everything you need on foot in Denia, whether you park in the large underground space at La Via, or stroll in from outside the main town. But even if you’ve lived here for years, it’s the kind of place where you can still make new discoveries of little specialist shops which must have been there all along, just waiting till you needed them.
Shopping in Denia is all there to be discovered. When are you coming to hit the shops with us?
