Many many years ago the River Turia flowed unchecked through Valencia. It wasn't mighty, it wasn't grandiose and at times it was a bit pathetic. However in 1957 it brought destruction on an unheard of scale to the city of Valencia and the authorities and the people decided enough is enough. When a Gota Fria hits then the river grew and grew until it burst its banks and as Valencia is flat it meant flooding. You can see a post here about the reason why Valencia has the biggest and best garden in Europe but today we are talking about what remains of the river.
The Turia River Valley Park stretches for over 35km from Valencia through the Turia valley past Manises, La Eliana, Ribarroja, Villamarchante, Pedralba and towards Bugarra. It has been set up for cycling, horse riding and walking and offers a lovely visit on many stretches away from traffic.
The part we are concentrating on today starts below the bridge separating La Eliana and Ribarroja and has an excellent area for parking the car, picnics and games as the river meanders by. You should try it for a stroll, to have some bike time or if you have a horse then it is a great area to explore.
Take a look at the images taken in February on a day with 20 degrees plus temperature and lots of #ValenciaBlue and sunshine.
