When buying a property one of the things you often consider first is the communications aspect, telephone, internet, metro and bus. Valencia’s metro system is extensive and growing. Next year it will reach Ribarroja and Villamarchante which should increase more their desirability as they will become commuter belt towns which currently they only are for people who like braving the early morning traffic into the city.
The metro is cheap in Valencia. It can get you into the city from the airport and around most areas of the city now. It goes near the city of Arts and Sciences, down to the beach and Port, right in the historical centre, a metro stop next to the central market is currently being built, and out to the towns surrounding Valencia.
When you consider it is backed up by an excellent bus service too it is surprising that people living and working in the city bother with a car with the associated problems of parking and costs. A metro and bus combined yearly ticket for the central part of Valencia can be had for as little as 90 Euros which isn’t bad. One day’s parking in the centre can cost you 24 Euros and a monthly garage space will cost a minimum of 90 Euros.
Consider the green aspect of mass transit too and you have something very attractive for those not needing a car during the week. Also if you want to rent a car and do it in advance to go away for the weekend then you can rent really cheaply too.
Finally for those who want less of a passive existence you can rent bikes all over Valencia now and there are kilometres and kilometres of bike routes including through the riverbed park. Having a bike which is your own or renting one regularly not only is very healthy but is generally quicker through the central part of the city too.
