For the longest time now I have been looking into what inspires people to move to Spain. Is it because of the usual suspects of better weather and siestas or are there other reasons to do it? In order to look into the reasons I thought I would follow the reasons people give on Twitter for moving to Spain and I have come up with a top ten list.
I have also come up with the top few reasons why people don't move to Spain, a few misconceptions and some really left field entries.
The reasons why not usually involve illiterate teenagers bemoaning the fact that they are learning Spanish and;
"Like why? I am never going to move to Spain/Mexico (delete as appropriate)"
"I hate Spanish so much like sorry I speak English and I don't plan on moving to Spain so what's the point."
So in no particular order except for the number one here are the reasons people give for moving to Spain.
1) I can have a siesta every day
2) If Romney/Obama wins I am so out of here as the USA is finished (variation: if the USA collapses then I am so moving to Spain {great plan :Ed}
3) The guys/girls in Spain are so hot
4) I can just lie around on the beach all day
5) I can watch Cristiano Ronaldo/Messi every day and I can have their babies
6) My parents are moving to Spain. My life is over. I don't know anyone in Spain.
7) I could listen to the Spanish accent all day.
8 ) I'm moving to Spain because its got legal gay marriage
9) Sun, sun, sun, sun, sun...
10) Although the main reason seems to be just "Screw this I'm moving to Spain" with no reason given.
I thought these were rather left field
"I'm changing my name to Ricardo and moving to Spain to pursue my dream of doing porn."
"#ToMyFutureWife we're moving to Spain, Venezuela, and Trinidad. We'll be involved in ministry and have six kids."
And the usual misconceptions
"I'm moving to Spain. They give you an hour nap during work"
"Moving to Spain, I understand they have all-male cinemas there."
"I'm a web developer looking for full-time work! I love my current job but I'm moving to Spain ... I'd love to talk!"
"I'm not moving to Spain.... I like my internet. :p" (what? We don't have the net here now... I knew things were bad but...")
And the Scots still manage to moan about the weather;
"Moving to Spain and having the rain follow you #nothappy #scottish #weather #depressing #cold"
I think that you may notice that the reasons given are not those that people who are seriously thinking of moving to Spain normally give or have in reality. What I would love to know from people are two things:
1) If you are already here what made you move to Spain?
2) If you are thinking of moving to Spain then why?
I will assume that because Spanish guys/girls are so hot is not going to be your primary consideration.
